With a vast geographical extent with varied climate, land use land cover, wildlife, demography and socio-economic situation in the entire Ganga Basin, tapping information for resource planning, R&D activities is a herculean task. There are lot of information on Ganga basin collected, collated, and compiled by different institutions/ organizations and agencies of both State and Central Governments. Many NGOs are also involved in different activities related to Ganga basin with possession of valuable information. There are also a number of books, journal papers, reports on Ganga basin. But this information is scattered, fragmented and unavailable on one platform to cater the need of multiple users.

Recently, the Ministry of Water Resources has been renamed as Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD & GR), emphasizing to restore the rivers into ‘Nirmal’ and ‘Aviral’ including Ganga. In addition to this, the government has launched the ambitious ‘Namami Gange’ an Integrated Ganga Conservation Mission with activities related with conservation and rejuvenation of the Ganga.

Recognizing the multi-sectoral, multi-dimensional and multi-stakeholder nature of information in the Ganga basin, various publications on Ganga from various sources have been collected and presented here
