Annual Water Requirements

Total annual requirement of fresh water for the country from various sectors including irrigation, domestic, industrial, hydropower and other uses is estimated to be about 694 to 710, 784 to 850 and 973 to 1,180 km³ by the years 2010, 2025 and 2050 respectively depending on the low and high demand scenarios. Estimates show that this demand will be met by harnessing 700 km³of surface water and 350 km³ of ground water.
